[00:00:00] Welcome, you're listening to the Grow Ortho podcast presented by HIIT.

[00:00:05] This podcast is dedicated to orthodontist who want to stand strong in their market and be leaders in their community.

[00:00:13] Now, onto today's show.

[00:00:17] Earlier this month, we had a private fish bind fundamentals, and part orthopedics. So I grew up mobile. I practice hard to do with orthopedics. I'll give them that minute to tell you more about our practice, but sort of develop 15 at that hard rate. But today, mindset, you've heard it all weekend.

[00:01:40] It's the same stuff.

[00:01:41] But mindset, how can it set you free or set you back?

[00:01:44] I think it will set us back for a number of years.

[00:01:46] But not months ago, we learned how to change that. So I you know recognize him as kind of like a mobile guy And so we kind of hit it off start eating lunch together like every time he come up We go you were just gonna eat lunch. I started talking to him and my dad about at that time back So most of them were like yeah heck yes. Yeah, yeah I thought that Harvey was pretty cool that is like a lot so the other local organs works and he was like hell

[00:03:00] Let's do it. I knew he's a little bit of somebody not that so anyway

[00:03:02] I have a fly north though with the south. That's where I met Neil food puree right here

[00:04:02] So you're gonna get rid of this picture, but uh, let me raise some of those Carter's 4 Richards 2.

[00:04:06] Uh, this is the girls, they're little caretakers.

[00:04:09] We got blessed in birth order.

[00:04:11] Like our little girls, like, you know, so be-dant, like, little caretakers.

[00:04:15] It'll sell like she models for the two boys.

[00:04:17] They're a little louder, but like, they're-

[00:04:19] They're- they're- they're- they're- they're- they love him.

[00:04:23] Yeah.

[00:04:24] I send pictures occasionally to other than Matt. So 97 to 15, he was buying a silk. It was Keith Arugnois, that was the logo. That was the original practice. We did that, but that's still our main location. It's actually not as high as producing location, but we call it Central Command.

[00:05:40] That's where Karen's office is.

[00:05:43] So like I was it, like I was deciding, you know,

[00:05:45] this is like a kind of not a great area of town.

[00:05:48] It's across the,000 square foot orthonique suite. The guy might, there was a lot of stuff passed away and moved out. My dad bought that side of the building from their family after he passed. And he was like, sat naked for probably 10, 15 years.

[00:07:00] I guess I did, but I was going to do this

[00:07:02] and save it for something.

[00:07:05] So while I was in residency for two so we had to go out from the beginning We don't have a choice because it was enough room for me So we did that and then like three four years later That our Harvey was working with this general dentist in his office And I was never a part of it I did go out there one time like on a Friday just to hang out because we got hang out on Fridays Because we can work in the same building easily ever

[00:08:21] So I got there hang out at it's called the architect immediately,

[00:09:40] I was like, we gotta have them chairs.

[00:09:42] And so this office is huge,

[00:09:45] but very underperforming architecturally,

[00:09:46] like yes, there's're excited about that. But all of this was in the works like before, like I thought like the hip fish buying era that like we're in now. But like, so all those were in the works before that. Just albeit probably underperforming locations, but we were doing it because I thought that like real estate and healthcare activity was cool.

[00:11:00] And I was like, well, if we can do it,

[00:11:02] we're gonna have a couple more of them.

[00:11:03] Let's get some more dollars and we'll just spray it

[00:11:05] with kind of slow on, I was like, well, if you can build like 2 million product and like, you know, maybe four total, you're close to seven figure, yeah, whatever, this is an easy map. But, but like, so we kind of did that. And it was very unfulfilling. I was like, it's this it? You know, 35, like, what am I going to do for the rest

[00:12:21] of my career in life? Yeah., it was like my next reneighbor in Birmingham but you know 15 years ago they're good people so she's about hard to she's like a foster or a group that kind of just like landed on our doorstep. I think more like more like blesses to that.

[00:13:42] So somebody didn't mention the beginning to kind of see what Pip was eating us. So timing is incredible. Timing with Kimmy was incredible. This is her family. They were fun.

[00:15:00] Made her kidneys pregnant, and that fell down as well.

[00:15:03] They're three-year-olds.

[00:15:04] I can't even if we can do that.

[00:15:06] We're Jeffrey. 26 to 40 employees like literally overnight all over a weekend We went from like four to half million to nine and a half million in revenues overnight But what happened? Yeah spoiler obviously this is tips Might have been on scrape conference. They were they were involved But the flashback to our first relationship in

[00:16:22] 2019

[00:16:23] We were building this third location just to about seeing that army and we were like man

[00:17:22] Yeah, you know, we get kind of agency hopped

[00:17:24] before that and so I was like

[00:17:29] So we hired him in 2019, but we didn't do anything

[00:17:32] that it took To make hip work

[00:17:33] Like we just you know our front desk would say oh, that's a four quid spur and they know showed and whatever

[00:17:40] But like we didn't level up. We didn't do

[00:17:43] We did nothing. We just hired a hundred times more than that, it took so much humility on Luke's part to take us back. So thank was like you need hit but I was like I know but I didn't know why but I like it got comments that's gonna put two together after a minute but he clearly

[00:20:21] like Luke said yesterday besides for relationship with Luke then and me said. I know that like when y'all are flying down here this week, you probably didn't realize you're coming to the Bible well. But you're here, so I'll get a little preachy for this to say. I was sitting church last Sunday, kind of like checked church and I was like, I gotta go get my talk ready this afternoon for next weekend. But that's it! Like what Alex is preaching right now? That's it. That's the implementation, you know? So it's not just to be a hip, not just get the hand raise, get to get me excited about it.

[00:23:01] They stay a while, you know? But like Holly, they stay in that here. Yes. I was, Dr. Bicuspid Bagden, talking about, you know, our little consults and I didn't realize that the consumer or patient didn't give two what's about all my classifications and stuff here. But it took some humility on the doctor's part

[00:24:22] to be like, look bro, I don't need to be in there

[00:24:25] for 30 minutes and we don't need to book them for an hour.

[00:24:27] They don't want that. We had gotten a dollar from a new patient yet before we decided to spend $500,000 on just human labor just to build out our org chart, just to invest in our company structure to do what HIP said. Because we're out, look, they were gracious enough and cool enough to take us back. The last thing we're going to do is do the same thing we did last time and just set them to forget them.

[00:25:40] We're going to do it in the same way.

[00:25:41] And so we did it and it's working.

[00:25:43] We've done what our practice over a weekend of humility for another tick that's back. It took humility to realize that I was wrong and hip was actually doing a good job with the 2019. We just did a darn thing to like receive what they were being listed. It took humility to realize that thinking differently may be a good idea. It took humility to think differently about scheduling the one-hour consult to maybe that'll teach them That was that guy I showed another guy that's 20 times heavier than just the main guy who was really ugly to Luke, you know but But you know that'll teach you to teach me you never build braces on you know, so man that was on a finna billy

[00:28:20] I gotta stand in

[00:28:22] Does that person you know?

[00:29:22] That mindset to learn how to do it. If you don't change your mindset and change your staff

[00:29:24] and change your training, you'll just think

[00:29:26] that three point of that person

[00:29:27] we can watch all night over here

[00:29:28] was just a bad lead from here.

[00:29:30] Yeah.

[00:29:31] But they're not.

[00:29:33] So heart and mindset change, gross being okay

[00:29:37] with knowing they're out.

[00:29:38] You know, I created my own mountaintop

[00:29:40] and the lifestyle practicing my head.

[00:29:42] And when I reached it, it was very unfulfilling.

[00:29:45] I'll say, give me some getting out of our own way. Maybe my plan wasn't the best after all. Good was the even best. I mean, we had a good practice before, but was it the best or the best that it could be? Then we're not.

[00:31:02] The gross learning, they're really through some control. Like, we've invested in our team,

[00:31:04] and we're learning, I'm came to a fish button, like eight, nine months ago,

[00:32:22] whatever.

[00:32:22] And then we brought what we thought

[00:32:24] were probably our five most influential team members

[00:32:28] from different areas of the office.
